Policy on the use of cookies and similar technologies

This policy refers to cookies and similar technologies used, as applicable, on the websites and applications operated by the Lam Foundation, located in Ilieni commune, Covasna county, hereinafter referred to as LAM.

Cookies are used for the following purposes:

  • - website functionality,
  • - analysis of website visitor behavior,
  • - for advertising.

The proper protection of personal data is an important objective for LAM. Our wish is to be as clear and transparent as possible regarding LAM's approach in this matter. For any questions, please contact us at office@lamilieni.ro.

  1. What are cookies?

A cookie is a small file, consisting of letters and numbers, that will be stored on the computer, mobile terminal or other equipment of a user from which the internet is accessed. The cookie is installed by the request issued by the user's terminal to a LAM server or to a third-party server.

  1. What are cookies used for?

These files primarily enable the recognition of the user's terminal and the presentation of content in a relevant way, tailored to the user's preferences.

Cookies provide users with a pleasant browsing experience and support LAM's efforts to offer services more tailored to users, e.g.: - online privacy preferences or relevant advertising. They are also used in preparing anonymous aggregate statistics that help us understand how a user benefits from our web pages, allowing us to improve their structure and content, without allowing the personal identification of the user.

  1. What cookies do we use?

We use two types of cookies: session and persistent. Session cookies are temporary files that remain on the user's terminal until the end of the session or closing of the application. Persistent cookies remain on the user's terminal for a period determined by the cookie parameters or until manually deleted by the user.

  1. How are cookies used by this site?

A visit to this site may place the following types of cookies:

  • - strictly necessary cookies for site functionality
  • - analytics cookies
  • - advertising cookies

Strictly necessary cookies and/or similar technologies are essential for the proper functioning of the site, being set on your device when accessing the site or following actions performed on the site, as applicable. You can set your browser to block cookies, but in this case certain sections of the site will not work properly.

  1. Do cookies or similar technologies contain personal data?

Cookies or similar technologies themselves do not require personal information to be used and, in many cases, do not personally identify internet users. However, there are situations where personal data may be collected through the use of cookies to facilitate certain functionalities for the user or to provide the user with an experience more tailored to their preferences. Such data is encrypted in a way that makes it impossible for unauthorized persons to access it.

What are similar technologies?

There are other technologies that can be used for the same purposes as cookies. LAM uses Local Storage as a similar technology.

  1. Blocking cookies

If you wish to block cookies, some functionalities of the site will be disabled, and this may cause certain malfunctions or errors in using our site.

  1. Managing preferences regarding the placement of cookies

Generally, an application used to access web pages allows cookies and/or similar technologies to be saved on the terminal by default. These are stored for variable periods. These settings can be changed so that the automatic management of cookies is blocked by the web browser or the user is informed every time cookies are sent to their terminal.

Detailed information about the possibilities and ways of managing cookies can be found in the settings area of the application (web browser). Limiting the use of cookies may affect certain functionalities of the website.

  1. Why are cookies and/or similar technologies important for the Internet?

Cookies and/or similar technologies are a central point for the efficient functioning of the Internet, helping to generate a friendly browsing experience tailored to each user's preferences and interests. Refusing or disabling cookies may make some sites or parts of sites unusable.

Disabling cookies does not mean that you will no longer receive, in compliance with the law, online advertising - but only that it will no longer be able to take into account your preferences and interests, highlighted by your browsing behavior.

Examples of important uses of cookies (which do not require user authentication via an account):

  • - Content and services tailored to user preferences - categories of products and services.
  • - Offers tailored to users' interests
  • - Password retention
  • - Retention of child protection filters regarding internet content (family mode options, safe search functions).
  • - Limiting the frequency of ad delivery - limiting the number of times an ad is displayed for a particular user on a site.
  • - Providing relevant advertising for the user.
  • - Measuring, optimizing and adapting analytics features - such as confirming a certain level of traffic on a website, what type of content is viewed and how a user arrives at a website (e.g., via search engines, directly, from other websites, etc.). Websites conduct these analyzes regarding their use to improve their services for the benefit of users.
  1. Security and privacy related aspects

Generally browsers have built-in privacy settings that provide different levels of cookie acceptance, validity period and automatic deletion after the user has visited a particular site.

Other security aspects related to cookies:

  • - Customize your browser settings regarding cookies to reflect a level of security for cookie usage that is comfortable for you.
  • - If you are the only person using the computer, you can set, if you wish, long expiration terms for storing browsing history and personal access data.
  • - If you share access to the computer, you may consider setting the browser to delete individual browsing data each time you close the browser. This is an option to access sites that place cookies and to delete any visit information when closing the browsing session.
